Attempt to smuggle in 7.8kg of gold thwarted at BIA

Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport, apprehended two Sri Lankan women, while trying to smuggle 7.8kg of gold items into the country.

The estimated value of the gold was Rs. 40 million. The suspects, residents of Colombo, had arrived in the country from Dubai at around 5am today (13).

One of them was a Real Estate Consultant, the Customs Media Spokesperson Sunil Jayaratne said. He said the apprehension was made on the intelligence gathered by the Customs Narcotic Control Unit.
