Joint Opposition meets Chief Prelates for apprising about ills of the tax Act
The joint opposition’s economic research unit has taken steps to hand over a letter to all religious leaders including the chief prelates of the three Nikayas apprising them regarding bringing all sacred sites under the new inland revenue tax Act.
As an initial step the joint opposition is due to call on the Malwattha and Asgiri Chapter Chief Incumbents and inform them about the Act today.
The joint opposition charges that the new Act removes all tax relief, the former government had awarded to sacred institutions under Inland Revenue Act No. 10 of 2006.
The Act created a scenario where it became impossible to maintain the sacred sites.
